Thank you for using the QR code at bridges One or Two at Cosgrove or one of our videos about the bridges. We hope you enjoy your visit to the website and would love to hear your thoughts about both the bridge and the overall canal restoration work.

The bridge and canal work is all undertaken by volunteers. For details on getting involved with our work please click here

Bridge 1

The bridge restoration cost just under £100,000 which was mostly material costs of approximately 75% has been funded by LEADER which is a European Fund. £10,000 has also been funded by a legacy from John Faulkner who was a former member of the IWA Northampton Branch Committee. A number of individuals have also donated along with fund-raising by BCS to make up the balance.

Bridge 2 and Flood Sluice

Bridge 2 is one of the enxt challenges we need to overcome. Working with relevant landowners, and under the supervision of CRT heritage officers and waterways engineers, we are starting work to expose the remains of bridge 2. it will then be documented for heritage purposes and a decision made as to how we progress the restoration. This may include the bridge or bypass the bridge depending on what is found.

The work on the flood sluice is also being overseen by CRT. The sluice is needed in case its necessary to drain the canal section.

Other archaeological studies and work will also be undertaken on the adjacent land to create supplementary reports for our upcoming planning application
