Partnerships

The Buckingham Canal Society works with a wide range of partners across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Water & Environment Partners

Anglian Water

Anglian Water is now confirmed as a strategic partner for WRMP29 (Water Resources Management Plan to 2029). They are baseline-calibrating modelling software to predict water needs for Milton Keynes and surrounding areas using volumes facilitated by the Buckingham Canal restoration. This is a landmark partnership that positions BCS as a key enabler of regional water security.

Canal & River Trust (CRT)

CRT continues as a key partner, providing lease arrangements at Cosgrove and Hyde Lane, loaning vessels, and providing lock gates. BCS maintains an active working relationship with CRT’s Peter Walker, Darren Leftley, Linny Beaumont and Osi Ivowi. Discussions are ongoing regarding the canal’s role in the broader waterways network and WRMP29 context.

Water Resources East (WRE)

The society is working with Water Resources East in the context of the WRMP29 process, particularly regarding the Upper Great Ouse catchment and the potential for the canal corridor to provide water transfer and storage functionality.

Environment Agency

The Environment Agency (represented by Michael Nunns) is engaged with the society in the context of the Ouse Valley Water Corridor proposition and its relevance to the 2026 Clean Water Bill.

GRS Roadstone

A proposed joint venture with GRS Roadstone for the Upper Ouse Valley flood store and wetlands — a key component of the water transfer scheme.

Local & Regional Partners

MK Canals

The Buckingham Canal Society is co-authoring the Ouse Valley Water Corridor strategic document with MK Canals (Terry Cavender also serves as an officer of MK Canals). MK Canals colleagues John Best, David Wolfson, Jane Wolfson and Andrew Stanley are involved in the wider blue-green corridor vision.

Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust (BMKW)

BMKW (represented by Hilary Chipping and Simon Clewlow) is a co-partner on the Ouse Valley Water Corridor initiative and the Parliamentary engagement strategy.

Buckinghamshire Council

Buckinghamshire Council (Councillors Robin Stuchbury, Ade Osibogun, Anja Schaefer, and officers including Alexander Beckett) are engaged as consultees on the Ouse Valley Water Corridor document, particularly in relation to the A413 bridge scheme and flooding improvement works.

West Northamptonshire Council

WNC is engaged through the local plan process, particularly regarding the Bourton Meadow Visitor Centre and wetlands development and the Ouse Valley Marina Zone D site submission.
