Community Engagement Worker

We are seeking self -motivated, enthusiastic Community Engagement Worker to join our team , working to targeted outcomes developing positive working relationships with the surrounding community and our volunteers to enable them to achieve their potential.

This person will engage with community groups and develop partnerships with them to further the canal restoration. Focusing on evidencing support from multiple community sectors, they will also help volunteers to develop personal transferable skills and relevant individual development plans.

This will also enable succession planning capability for the Society whilst also helping volunteers improve opportunities for themselves including in some cases return to employment and/or improved careers through conservation and restoration related activities as part of a team. Additionally, the Community Engagement Worker role will include assisting project administration and planning support with paperwork and record maintenance.

The role is intended to support the development of a broad range of community engagement and volunteer personnel who in turn will help the growth and objectives of the Society and the canal restoration. Working with the charity’s trustees and management team, you will also help drive partnerships delivering an overall greater project capacity. Ideally this part time role will simultaneously be undertaking training and the Society plans to work closely with Aylesbury &/or Milton Keynes College to support the employee outside of the working hours.

The successful candidate will:

  • be highly motivated and with a good understanding of ethical and motivational as well as best practice in relation to working with people of all age groups
  • Demonstrate a commitment to making a positive difference to these outcomes with a creative and innovative approach.
  • Show good communication skills (both written and verbal) which are essential to support the achievement of the project’s objectives and to deal with people at all levels
  • Contribute to the restoration, maintenance, conservation and improvement of the Buckingham Canal by supporting our volunteers will help to deliver works that encourage and increase the number of people who use and enjoy the canal.

There will also be opportunities to lead the volunteers and be accountable for the work they carry out as well as holding responsibility on specific project sites for aspects of work e.g. vegetation management, construction. Ensure the team working happily, effectively and safely delivers the agreed work tasks.

The post holder will be required to work an annualised hours system which includes working any agreed days out of 7 including statutory holidays. Some evening and weekend work will be required by prior agreement.
