Situations Vacant

We are always looking for new volunteers across a wide range of activities and roles. We occasionally have part-time salaried positions available. Salaried Positions

Community Engagement Worker

We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic, Community Engagement Worker to join our team. The position pays the “living-wage” hourly rate and is for up to 10 hours per week.

Volunteer Positions

We welcome volunteers with any ability level, however there are a number of roles where we have a need for some specific experience.

Environmental and biodiversity lead trustee

A critical role in helping to further develop the Society’s restoration to be sustainable driving the environmental and biodiversity aspects.

Digital innovation lead trustee

Drag us into the 21st century! It’s not quite that bad. We have dabbled but help us evolve into a vanguard organisation embracing technological capabilities to advance the Society’s restoration and brand awareness. From digital monitoring through iBeacons and QR codes, we need a leader with a passion to take us digital.

Marketing and publicity lead trustee

A critical role in helping to further develop the public profile of the Society as well as developing our brand in the eyes of funders.

Includes leading the development of and managing our brand identity, planning marketing and promotional events and implementing communication campaigns alongside relevant events.

Guide us to how best we can use rich and engaging content in creative and innovative ways to market our fund-raising events and volunteer activities. Help the team create content for our digital channels – website, social media etc., as well as promotional materials such as posters, flyers, brochures etc..

Conservation / Restoration volunteers

Anyone with an interest in conservation, restoration and environmental work is welcome. We have four sites along the disused Buckingham Canal with various projects and maintenance tasks at each one. You don’t have to be amazingly fit, just enjoy working outside with a friendly group of people. Work party dates are 2nd Sunday of each month and alternate Thursdays. We also organise social events for volunteers and members which includes a festival in July and boat trip in the autumn.

Project management

Canal Project Manager wanted on a voluntary basis to work with and assist with the planning and the overseeing of the restoration and re-watering of a length of the disused Buckingham Canal. Would suit a retired civil engineer or surveyor. Experience of earth embankment and water flow in open channels would be useful.

Trustees and officers

We are actively looking for additional trustees.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, or interested in working with the Buckingham Canal Society in any other way please:

Alternatively contact any of the committee for details.
