Following a grant from Buckinghamshire County Council’ Local Area Forum for Buckingham, the first of several signs have now been erected and replacement rustic bench seating has been installed at the Hyde Lane Nature reserve adjacent to the Lock along the Ouse Valley Walk. This was completed with the kind assistance of Buckingham Town Council staff and green spaces team.

The signs were suggested by many of the members of the public who attended the rewatering ceremony and are in the standard canal style as used by Canal & River Trust. The seating was replaced by the society’s volunteers as it had become dangerous over its 20 year life at the site and can now be enjoyed by walkers as well as members of the society when working at the nature reserve site.

Additional work has been cared out to stabilise handrails along the right of way which runs along the old tow path from Buckingham to the county boundary and beyond.

Further signs will be fitted to highlight the canal route over the coming months to coincide with the re-relining of the canal.
